November 8, 2011

Dear Parents,

As part of my student teaching I will be teaching full time in the classroom for the next two weeks. So, when you pick up your students or drop them off you will most likely be seeing just me.

Last week in Reading we began a unit on disasters. This week's story is about the Titanic. We will be learning about the kinds of people who would have been on the ship, why icebergs are so dangerous, and how something that big could float.

In Science we will be continuing to study minerals. We will look at the effects of mining, as well as study renewable and nonrenewable resources.

In math we will be adding and subtracting two and three digit numbers with regrouping. We will also continue our Rocket math so students should study their math facts every night.

In English we will be wrapping up our unit on sentences with a test on Thursday. The first part of the review sheet went home today as homework for your student.

In Social Studies we will be beginning our unit on Native Americans. We will look at where they lived and how you can still see evidence of them today.

In Religion we will continue our study of the Old Testament.

Finally, in Spelling we will continue to work on unit ten, which concentrates on spelling the vowel sound heard when we say "Lawn"! The words can be found in the previous post.

Homework for tonight is to study the spelling words, review math facts, and do the study sheet on sentences.
