Dear Parents,
This will be an exciting week for your students. Highlights are:
1. Religion and Lent.
2. Research Report: The beginning!
The children will spend this week deciding on a topic for a research report.
They will do this in class.
The students may need you to take them to a public library to do research, if that is possible for you. We hope all children have a library card by now. We have resources in school as well. Your student may do research on the internet, under your supervision.
Week one: March 7th - 10th. Students choose a topic under the umbrella of "Rain Forest"! Your child will formulate 3 to 5 questions (or more). They will do research to find answers to their questions. Students will write down the names of the books or articles they are reading; even articles from the internet.
Week two: March 14 - 18th. Your student will continue to read books and articles about their individual topic. They will write down important words or phrases.
Students will put together their research report. It will include answers to their original questions, and pictures or drawings of their topics. Children may want to gather artifacts, costumes, props, etc. to help them to present their reports.
Week 3: March 21st - March 25th. Students will present their findings in the form of a written and an oral report.
There is no formal homework tonight.
Have a good evening.
