Welcome to Sch0ol Year 2011-2012.
Just a word of welcome. We are glad to have your children in our class! I am looking forward to a wonderful school year. Third-graders are natural learners and teachers. It is a joy to teach such interested and interesting children.
When your children come home today, please check their back-packs for a bright red folder called the Red Alert. If there are permission slips, notes from school, or homework sheets - they will be in that folder. It is good thing if you are able to check it each school night.
Homework is usually assigned Monday through Thursday nights. Major projects or extra practice may require a weekend. Homework will usually be posted on this classroom blog, and the children should be able to tell you in person, of any homework they have, when you ask them.
If any homework causes distress for either you or your child, let it go and I will handle it the next day with your student. No Tears, please. Sleep comes before homework. Your students work very hard during the school day. The third grade is a transition year to more academic work. We will often ask you to help your student with editing their writing pieces, checking math facts, and listening to your child read aloud to you. These times should take no more than five minutes each, and should never cause those tears I spoke of earlier! If you have any questions about homework, or anything else for that matter, please call me after school, and I will be happy to talk with you.
That is all for now. I hope your children will have a wonderful, happy, fruitful school year.
May God Bless us all,
Sincerely,
Mrs. Balck
