Grade Three for October 15, 2009

Greetings on this beautiful autumn day. The Mass that your children served was beautifully done. The readers spoke loudly, clearly, and with understanding. The cross bearer did his job well as did the gift bearers. They made the Mass very meaningful for all those who were in attendance.

HOMEWORK
The homework directions for tonight are geared to help your children master addition and subtraction facts. A fact is mastered when it can be answered instantly without any hesitation or pause. The fact families they are to write out and study tonight are:

9 + 2 = 11
11 - 2 = 9
2 + 9 = 11
11 - 9 = 2

and

9 + 6 = 15
6 + 9 = 15
15 - 9 = 6
15 - 6 = 9

Notice that the order does not matter; only that all four facts in a family are written. Your student has been asked to use a very precise format and to write each "family" ten times each.

If frustration sets in after 10 minutes or so, stop! We will use some time in school to help your child learn how to do this assignment.

Our purpose is to have your student prepared for higher-level math by knowing these facts really well.

Spelling Test on Unit 7 will be tomorrow. (Friday)

Have a great evening.
