Important Reminders
We continue to work on Business Day which will be next Wednesday, May 19th. Here are a few reminders and updates which should assist your child and you:
- The "Hours of Operation" will be from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
- Please have your child bring a sturdy box, preferably with a lid, to use as a cash box. The box should be large enough to separate bills.
- Students should bring all receipts showing what investors have put into their businesses!
- Students are required to pay back all investors.
- The children should bring a zip-lock bag of change to start their business. Typically, a few singles, some quarters, dimes and nickels will suffice. Please put their names and the amount of start-up money in the zip-lock bag. The children must pay back this start-up money at the end of the sale, and so they need to know exactly how much they brought to their businesses in the first place!
- We will count and calculate any money made on Wednesday or possibly even Thursday. If your child is handling a large amount of money, we will send it home with parents when they come to pick up their children after school. Parents may want to go over the counting of the money, help students pay back investors, and set aside 6% of profit for "taxes".
- If adults are needed to assist with the set-up of the business, we ask that they come before school, and then come back to shop! We will be having class until approximately ten minutes prior to the sale. If an adult is needed to help run the business (i.e. the business uses electricity for things like blenders or Sloppy Joe or Pizza lunches, or other reasons) he or she should return at approximately 9:55 AM.
- We will be working through our lunch time so we are asking all of the children to bring sack lunches (even if they are scheduled to receive hot lunch). We will have the children eat 1/2 of their lunch prior to the sale and the remainder after the sale. We will send down for the hot lunches of children who have ordered them.
- We have informed the children that they will not be able to eat or shop during the actual hours of operations since they are required to be at their place of business.
- Please make certain the children work on counting back money (Making Change). A good way to do this is by playing store.
- Your student needs to create an "Open" sign as well as a "Closed" sign. He or she should also make a sign with his or her business' name to display on the day of the sale. Students should work on advertising, such as posters that can be placed all over the school! Check spelling and capital letters!
Finally, the Lake's found a pair of eyeglasses at their home following the third grade mixer party on Friday of last week. If you think these are yours, please let us know.
Have a great evening!
